The Sales Engineer acts as the technical trusted advisor throughout the sales cycle, partnering with Account Executives to understand customer requirements and demonstrate how solutions address business challenges. This role bridges the gap between technical capabilities and customer needs, ensuring that proposed architectures are both feasible and aligned with best practices.
In addition to pre-sales activities, the Sales Engineer collaborates with Product and Engineering teams to relay customer feedback, influence roadmap priorities, and support pilot and proof-of-concept deployments. Strong communication skills and a consultative mindset are essential to build credibility with both technical and executive stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Conducting technical discovery calls and workshops to map customer use cases to product features
- Designing and delivering live or virtual product demonstrations and custom proof-of-concept environments
- Developing solution architectures, integration diagrams, and deployment plans that articulate end-to-end workflows
- Responding to RFPs, RFIs, and security/compliance questionnaires with clear, detailed technical documentation
- Collaborating with Product Management to capture feature requests and with Engineering to plan beta engagements
- Leading technical training sessions and enablement workshops for sales teams and partners
Qualifications:
- 3+ years as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Pre-Sales Engineer in enterprise software or SaaS companies
- Strong foundation in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), APIs, microservices, and networking concepts
- Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical topics to diverse audiences
- Proven track record of supporting multi-stakeholder, complex sales cycles and closing high-value deals
- Hands-on experience setting up demo environments using virtualization or containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent
- Prior experience in a vertical such as finance, healthcare, or government, with an understanding of compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FedRAMP)
